The Nehemiah Project provides temporary emergency shelter for men, women, and children who are facing homelessness. Because of generous donors all services provided at The Nehemiah Project are free of charge.

When is the shelter open?
The shelter homes are open from 5pm-8am daily. During the day, our warm room is open from 8am-5pm.
What is your substance use policy?
We are a high barrier shelter, meaning that you must abstain from using alcohol and drugs, including medical marijuana, at all times while a resident of The Nehemiah Project.
How old do you have to be to come to the shelter?
You must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult.
Will I have my own room?
In order to maximize the number of people that we can help rooms are set up with 2-4 people in each room.
What happens with my belongings?
Living in community means that you may not be able to bring all of your things into the house. One suitcase of clothing is the most that you can bring into the shelter. All other belongings will be stored in a locked area for the duration of your stay.
Can I bring my pet?
Because we are a family shelter, the only animals we can allow are certified service animals. If you are looking to temporarily rehome your pet while you stay with us, the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society can help. Call (231) 347-2396
Do you accommodate disabilities?
We will accommodate disabilities as best we can. Both the men’s and women’s houses require the ability to climb stairs. Also, depending on availability, you may be required to sleep in the top bunk of a bunk bed
